The Blue Panther head

This project is a foam latex head
For this head, I purchased cold foam latex pieces from NorthfurFX to build the head. I built a head piece from lycra material which I coated with latex and then glued the prosthetic pieces to that. Then I covered all of it with blue fur and painted in the nose and gums and attached eyes made from expended mesh metal.  The pieces that I purchased from NorthfurFX were the large feline face, the feline ears and the teeth.  Cold foam latex was chosen because it is stiffer than hot foam latex and would hold up better to being covered with fur.

Another view

The large face part.  The eyes have now been trimmed out.

An inside view of the large face part with the eyes trimmed out.

The jaw piece and ears with excess foam trimmed away.

Close-up of the ears with the excess foam trimmed away.

The lycra hood with latex painted on.  I am still waiting for all the latex to dry, you can see a wet area on the back of the neck.

The jaw piece glued in place.  Notice the black lines.  Before gluing, I held the piece to the hood and marked the edges with a sharpie marker.  Then I could apply glue only where needed.

The large face piece has now been attached using the same method.  What you don't see here is the fan blowing fresh air at my face into the mouth to keep the fumes under control!  The face part overlaps the jaw piece a little bit.

I have removed the hood here and showing the ear positions marked and glue applied.  "Contact cement" was used.

The face is completely attached to the hood now.

A side view.

Here the jaw pieces have been painted.

The jaw pieces have been glued in.  Yeah, they do look a little crooked!

An open mouth view.

Fur has now been glued onto the back.  Since the fur does not stretch, I have left a lot of slack in it here.  It is glued at the front edges and a line down the back only.  If a tight fit is needed, a zipper would have to be installed.

The ears and forehead are now covered.  Also the jaw.

Working down the nose.

And now the rest of the face.  The side were covered with one piece each and the eyebrows with one each.

Another view.

The nose is now painted and the unpainted mesh eyes are in for a trial fit.

Painted eyes.  The edges are simply stuck into the foam (not the latex surface) to hold the.   Be careful not to have any sharp pieces pointed at your real eye!

Another view of the finished head.  Views of it being worn can be found in the Midwest Furfest 2009 pictures.
